Nawakwa Lodge Receives Two National Awards
Congratulations are in order for Nawakwa Lodge 3 of the Heart of Virginia Council. Nawakwa Lodge will be receiving both the E. Urner Goodman Camping Award and the National Service Award for 2012. These awards are only presented to two lodges in each region annually and it is extraordinarily rare for a lodge to receive both awards in the same year.
The E. Urner Goodman Camping Award was established in 1969 as a tribute and testimonial to the Order’s founder. Its purpose is to encourage and challenge Order of the Arrow members and lodges to increase their effectiveness in promoting and increasing Scout camping in each council. Awards are presented to two outstanding lodges in each Region annually. The other Southern Region recipient for 2012 will be Quapaw Lodge of the Quapaw Area Council #18 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The National Service Award was established in 1999 to recognize lodges in each region that have performed outstanding service, both in a qualitative and a quantitative sense, to their council. The National Service Award petition is submitted along with the lodge recharter application. Two lodges per region are granted the National Service Award each year. The other Southern Region recipient for 2012 will be Mikanakawa Lodge of the Circle Ten Council #571 in Dallas, Texas.
These recognitions will be presented to Nawakwa at the upcoming BSA National Meeting in Grapevine, Texas during the Southern Region Luncheon and Award Ceremony.
Congratulations to Lodge Chief Marc Reiner, Lodge Adviser Mack Ruffin, Staff Adviser Mic Mullins and all of Nawakwa Lodge for this outstanding recognition and on a job well done!
