Conclave Service Project: In 2023, Section E9 partnered with the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley, a nonprofit organization that provides helpful services to abuse victims in Southwest Virginia. For 45 years they have provided courage and inspiration to those in need. At Conclave, attendees donated over 750 pounds of items and spent Saturday afternoon combining those donations into welcome kits for those entering their temporary housing shelters. Together they created 264 welcome kits. The annual silent and live patch auctions, as well as registration donations, were also hugely successful and collectively raised over $2,400 that will be sent to the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley to support their work.
Notes: Due to the COVID-19 related cancelation of the 2020 SR-7A Conclave, this was the first Conclave held at Camp Powhatan by Tutelo Lodge #161 since 2016, a year later than the anticipated since the last time they were the Service Lodge. This fortunately resulted in Tutelo Lodge’s 50th anniversary coinciding with their new Conclave hosting year. A handful former lodge officers, advisers, and past members visited Conclave for the day to celebrate Tutelo’s golden anniversary. On Friday, Max Creek water levels were above normal due to heavy rains in the afternoon. Participants arriving to Camp Powhatan used caution as they drove over two flooded lower water crossings that returned to a dry state by departure on Sunday.
